An expatriate living in Dubai has won a national media prize.
Amateur photographer Winjnand Van Till, who originally hails from the Netherlands, was awarded the accolade by National Geographic magazine after snapping an aerial view of the emirate from above the clouds.
The expatriate was chosen out of some 20,000 entrants to be crowned winner of the landscape category in the Netherlands edition of the publication.
Mr Van Till told the National : "It was just a lucky shot. It proves you should always keep your camera close by."
Jochem Wijnands, a professional photographer for National Geographic explained the novice deserved to win because of his "go-getting attitude".
Mr Van Till travelled to the Royal Tropical Institute last Wednesday (October 27th) to accept his prize of an all-expenses paid trip to Kenya, where he will be able to build upon his photographic skills.
However, his photograph of Dubai through the clouds did not just gain recognition in his home country, as the expatriate was also the overall winner for the Emirates in a Canon Photography Competition earlier this year.
A total of four winners gained prizes in different categories at the National Geographic awards.
