The perfect credit crunch escape?

An author and investor has shared his plans for a utopian hideaway in the mountains of Argentina.

Doug Casey, founder of finance firm Casey Research, is behind the development of a new expatriate community, which he reportedly hopes will offer an escape from the pressures of the recession.

La Estancia de Cafayate is scheduled to open on November 1st and offers residents 1,500 acres of land, vineyards and a golf course.

According to the development’s website, each of the 350 homesites will border open land, while some include enough space for an orchard or ranch.

Its inaugural weekend will provide the new inhabitants with bike rides, yoga classes and wine tasting, in addition to seminars by the development’s architect Jack Zehren.

Speaking to investment news site, Mr Casey said he "wanted a place where a really civilized person could enjoy himself".

He continued by describing his nomadic philosophy: "I don’t think you want to live in any country full time or become a citizen of the country you are living in. That’s a mistake."
