When looking to buy property abroad, Portugal is the most popular search destination, claims property site Homes Overseas.
Previously ranked fourth, Portugal has now overtaken Spain in the rankings, after a number of scandals put potential buyers off Spanish property.

Other countries that have increased in popularity – based on house purchase searches – are Italy, Greece, Thailand and Brazil.
According to the British Consul, more than 1.5 million British tourists visit the country every year and 60,000-70,000 British nationals are part-time or permanent residents.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has stressed that the British Embassy will not cover the cost of an air ambulance flight back to the UK – expatriates should then check what their overseas insurance covers before moving abroad.
