Overseas Health Insurance News: Expats can get fit with their pets in Chicago

Expatriates in Chicago have the unique opportunity of going to the gym with their pets as one fitness club is offering classes for animals and their owners to workout together.

The idea was the brainchild of Tricia Montgomery, who was told that she was morbidly obese and so was her dog, Louie.

She decided to do something about it and founded the K9 Fit Club to address the health problems that both her and her pet were facing.

As a result of exercising alongside Louie, Ms Montgomery lost nine stone and the basset hound dropped his body weight by 22 per cent.

Apparently going to the gym with a pet is a good way to keep motivated and since obese animals can suffer from heart problems and diabetes just like humans it is beneficial for them too.

Classes cost around $20 (£13.25) for both the person and their pet and owners are likely to meet other people with a similar goal for themselves and their dog.
