ABI: Double check your insurance policy

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has advised people intent on travelling overseas to carefully check their insurance policies.

Its spokesperson Malcolm Tarling noted that the current outbreak of swine flu has made people more aware of what cover they have.

He noted that "it certainly makes people think about making sure they have got adequate insurance when they go overseas".

Current government advice for anyone considering visiting a friend or relative living an expatriate lifestyle in Mexico, is to stay at home.

The World Health Organisation has upped its pandemic alert status to phase four, although countries were told to not close their borders.

According to the journal Science, researchers at London’s Imperial College have predicted the disease could become an epidemic by autumn.

If you are moving abroad it is only sensible to investigate how to get expatriate insurance before you board your flight.
