The Most Romantic Travel Destinations in the World

Whilst travelling solo can be quite an adventure, there is something special about travelling with a partner. Exploring cities, discovering beautiful spots to relax in, and eating tasty local delicacies can all be improved when you can experience them with a loved one.

You can make any travel destination romantic when you’re travelling with your partner. But if you want to find an extra special location for a romantic getaway, these are the most romantic travel destinations in the world.

Paris, France

Of course, we couldn’t have a list of romantic destinations without including the ‘City of Light’, Paris. The French capital is perfect for couples looking for a city break. It’s best to explore Paris on foot, getting lost in the tucked-away streets, and finding a café, bar, or bistro to stop for refreshments.

There are also plenty of cultural tourist attractions, so make sure to take in the beautiful art in the Louvre Museum, which houses the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. Next to the Louvre is the Tuileries Gardens, a gorgeous public garden that is the perfect place to take a stroll with your loved one. You can also visit the Musée de l’Orangerie which features impressionist and post-impressionist paintings, including by Monet.

A trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Eiffel Tower – make sure to go at night to fully appreciate the tower with its spectacular twinkling lights.

Venice, Italy

Venice in Italy is another famous romantic city. There are very few roads in Venice, but lots of canals – so make sure to take a gondola trip with your loved one for a true Venetian experience. Venice also has plenty of beautiful architecture to take in, as well as narrow streets to explore. You might even find some authentic Italian gelato to fuel your exploration of the city.

Venice has plenty to offer those looking for something cultural. Buy a ticket to the ballet or opera at the Theatre La Fenice, where you can also enjoy the gilded balconies within the opera house. For an extra special experience, take a boat over to the island of Murano and learn about the history and art of glass blowing. You could even pick up a personalised souvenir from the Murano Glass Museum to remember your trip.

Santorini, Greece

The Greek island of Santorini is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the world, and for good reason. Santorini is home to the iconic white houses with blue-domed rooves which mirror the beautiful blue Aegean Sea. Oia is the most popular town on the island, offering views of the gorgeous pastel sunsets from the cliffside.

As well as spectacular views, there’s also plenty to do in Santorini. It’s best to rent a car for your visit so you can explore the entire island and experience everything it has to offer. Take a trip to a Santorini winery to sample the rare variety of grape that’s grown on the island, in what’s said to be some of the oldest vineyards in the world. Or you can visit the mud baths in the hot springs by the island’s volcano – the sulphur in the mud is said to be fantastic for the skin.

Maldives

The Maldives in the Indian Ocean is another popular honeymoon destination. It’s famous for its spectacular white sandy beaches and tranquil blue waters. For a real luxurious Maldives experience, stay in an overwater bungalow, with transparent floors so you can watch the ocean. You can also hire a private butler so you can enjoy dinner on the beach with your loved one.

In the Maldives, you can also hire your own private island for the day, where you’ll be left with your partner to enjoy a secluded beach with a picnic basket of refreshments. You can take in the sea life by snorkeling around the many coral reefs, taking the opportunity to swim with manta rays and turtles.  – or if you don’t fancy getting wet, the visibility in the water is so good you can watch the sea life from outside the water.

For a special Maldives experience, visit Vaadhoo Iland in Raa Atoll so you can dine next to the sea of stars – thanks to bioluminescence, the plankton in the water glows blue, creating a truly wonderous sight in the ocean.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali in southeast Asia has plenty to offer couples, from spectacular scenery to rich culture and traditions. Bali has lots of ancient temples around the island, including Pura Besakih, which is located next to Bali’s largest volcano, and Pura Tirta Empul, which is built around a sacred spring where visitors can cleanse their bodies and spirits.

In Gesing is the Great Banyan Tree, one of Bali’s most famous natural landmarks. This 700-year-old Banyan tree is 25 m tall and said to have spirits living inside the branches. It’s believed that if you make a wish in front of the tree, it will come true – so make sure to visit with your partner and make a wish with them.

Bali also has plenty of opportunities for rest and relaxation. Spend a day on one of its many beaches or book a sunset dinner on Jimbaran Beach on the south of the island. You can also enjoy a couple’s spa day at one of Bali’s many spas, enjoying a flower bath, hot stone massage, or invigorating body scrub.
