Does expat travel insurance cover loss of cash?
Expat travel insurance includes cover to protect your money and documents on the Standard and Comprehensive plans. If you lose cash or essential travel documents during a trip, you may be able to claim for those losses, subject to the terms and conditions of your policy.
Loss of cash or documents is not included within the basic plan.
What you need to do to make a claim
To support a claim for lost money or documents, you will generally need to report the loss to the relevant local authorities and obtain a written report, and provide evidence of the loss as part of your claim. Losses resulting from items being left unattended may not be covered, so it is important to take reasonable care of your belongings while travelling.
What happens if you lose your passport abroad?
In addition to money and documents, the loss of your passport is also included as a separate benefit on the Standard and Comprehensive plans. Losing a passport abroad can be disruptive and costly to resolve and having cover in place helps manage both the practical and financial consequences of replacing it while you are away.
