There are numerous reasons why Greece is such a popular place to travel but we know you haven’t got all day so here are just five of the main reasons this Balkan country is so attractive.

Beautiful weather

Of course, the first thing we must talk about is the weather. Due to its southern location in the Mediterranean, Greece has warm springs, very hot summers with plenty of sunshine that usually stays throughout Autumn. Temperatures can reach up to 35°C during the summer, perfect weather to enjoy the country’s plethora of beaches and take a dip in the turquoise sea.

Amazing food

If you’re a foodie then you’ll be in your element on any one of the Greek Islands. The food in Greece is beyond tasty. Contemporary Greek cooking uses vegetables, olive oil, meat and fish while pasta, cheese, yoghurt and bread are also important ingredients. It’s not all about the Greek salad, the fresh fruits are delectable, the meat is exquisite and the vegetables are heavenly.

Local specialities that you must try when in Greece include tzatziki, moussaka, Souvlaki and Loukoumades.

Gorgeous beaches

Greece is a peninsular country with an archipelago of about 3000 islands, meaning there are a considerable amount of beaches to choose from. The mainland has long stretches of golden beaches such as Pefkochori and each island has its own coastal gems. Corfu, Rhodes and Zante have some stunning beaches with rich blue sea that are adored by tourists. Shipwreck Beach is one of the most famous Greek beaches located on Zakynthos island. There are also many undiscovered beaches on lesser-known islands such as Milos and Kythira.

UNESCO Sites

Greece is littered with spectacular UNESCO World Heritage sites something that definitely deserves more recognition. There are 18 UNESCO Sites across Greece, which is often a surprise to many. These include; The Acropolis, Athens, Archeological site of Delphi, Old Town of Corfu, the Medieval City of Corfu and many more. Some of these sites are truly unique and visiting them will allow you to see another side of the country. They are worth a visit, so if you’re planning on travelling to Greece make sure you make a list of ones that you want to see.

Generous people

If the previous reasons haven’t already convinced you that Greece is a fantastic holiday destination, then the overwhelming hospitality of the people will. The Greeks are very generous and inviting people. They always appreciate the presence of visitors and live life by the FILOTIMO concept, which is all about friendliness and hospitality. Their goodwill and amity will fill you with joy and make your Greek stay even more wonderful.
