Specialist massage therapist Steve Finnemore explained the best way to reduce feelings of this negative emotion is by doing "something you really enjoy".
Things that leave people in a calm state were highlighted by the expert as the best ways to unwind, such as reading books, listening to music, taking a bath or being massaged.
He noted getting outside, experiencing the sunlight and undertaking physical activity is particularly useful, especially in the winter.
Men and women should schedule some time for themselves and others to relax in during the Christmas period, Mr Finnemore suggested, arguing this can involve different people engaging in disparate activities.
"The holiday period brings its own stressors, especially if you have more company than you're used to," he pointed out.
Diet should also be considered in the winter, with a lack of sunlight leaving people more susceptible to Vitamin D deficiencies, editor of Healthy magazine Jane Druker recently asserted.
