International Healthcare News: Obesity 'poses eyesight risk'

Expatriates who are keeping a close eye on their healthcare might be interested to know that obesity can pose a risk to good vision.

Dharmesh Patel, chairman of the Eyecare Trust, claimed that being overweight can increase the risk of "sight threatening eye conditions such as macular degeneration or cataracts".

However, international health insurance customers can avoid this by maintaining a health diet that is rich in fruit and vegetables.

Furthermore, stopping smoking, watching your weight and taking regular exercise and eye tests will help to promote good eye health.

The comments follow research conducted by the College of Optometrists that suggested that people are keen on the appearance of glasses.

Indeed, 43 per cent of those questioned said that they think glasses make a person look more intelligent, while 36 per cent said they believe that they can make someone look more professional.

In fact, 40 per cent said they would consider wearing clear lens glasses just to help themselves get ahead at work and look fashionable.
