Ms Freeman also stated people trying to conceive should have at least eight hours of sleep every night and should aim to go to bed "at a regular time".
Couples should also try to reduce the amount of stress they feel, she added, noting: "Of course a big stress is the issue of conceiving itself, but try to enjoy it."
It can take four months for an unhealthy person to lose all of the "ill effects of 'bad' living", she claimed, suggesting that couples alter their lifestyles several months before they plan to conceive.
This can ensure "the healthiest pregnancy and the most trouble-free conception", the expert remarked.
