Individuals with overseas medical insurance policies may want to avoid making a claim by following one expert's advice on staying healthy while performing winter sports.
Dharmesh Patel, chairman of the Eyecare Trust, described how it is vital that people wear specially designed sunglasses when they are undertaking activities such as skiing.
He explained how suitable lenses will be made from materials that "can withstand the cold and resist breaking or shattering on impact".
It was noted that peripheral vision is important when taking part in winter sports and so goggles with large, wide lenses are a must.
Alternatively, Mr Patel recommended wrap-around sunglasses with "the least amount of distortion you can find".
To avoid glare and reflected light, the specialist advised sports enthusiasts to invest in eyewear that has polarised lenses.
According to Mr Patel, high altitudes increase UV radiation levels and fresh snow can reflect as much as 80 per cent of the radiation.
