Charlene Hutsebaut, exercise expert for The De-Stress Diet and founder of charlenehutsebaut.com, claimed ill-fitting garments can result in "painful chaffing".
Some clothes "breathe better than others", which ensures sweat does not remain on the skin and prevents people quickly becoming cold in chillier weather, she remarked.
The expert promoted the layering of materials when running in the winter, which prevents both overheating and rapid cooling.
Ms Hutsebaut said the "type of clothing is important", noting some individuals need tank tops while others can easily wear t-shirts without suffering any rashes or abrasions.
Footwear also must be considered, she stated, pointing out women and men have different-sized feet so the shoes worn ought to be designed for the correct gender.
It could be useful to try and find the perfect footwear, as "all humans have slightly different biomechanics of the foot", the expert asserted.
Feet swell during the day so shoes must accommodate this, spokesman for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists Matthew Fitzpatrick recently said.
