People who are considering expatriating have been advised to be realistic about retiring overseas.
Maria Johnston, director at Retirement Today, said that everybody is "looking for a utopia" and some people will find this abroad.
"But people have to be realistic," she added.
"If you're going to a country where you don't speak the language and you can't communicate, things can get very difficult very quickly."
Organising expatriate health insurance is certainly something to consider when relocating abroad.
Ms Johnston advised people that it is also important to ensure that you can provide for yourself financially before you move "or else it becomes a nightmare".
"It isn't so easy to get back and relocate back to UK [if] they have fallen off the property ladder," she explained.
"All these things have to be taken into consideration."
