No problems for Brits to buy in Brazil

Expatriates who want to move to Brazil will face no restrictions when trying to buy property in the South American country, claims a property magazine.

Unlike some countries in Asia, expatriates are free to buy property in Brazil which is attracting investors, retirees and those looking for holiday homes despite being an emerging housing market, according to BuyAssociation.

Richard Way, editor of A Place in the Sun Magazine, said: "There are no restrictions on people buying in Brazil, unlike some parts of China and India where you can't buy as a non-national of those countries."

One difficulty expatriates may encounter is that non-residents are not allowed to set up bank accounts in Brazil but Mr Way claims this problem can be bypassed through an agent or a developer.

"It makes it difficult for the investor but there will be ways around this and normally you would do it through someone else," he added.

Plots in an established development in Brazil will cost around £20,000 for a 1,000-square-metre site, claims BuyAssociation.
