Worldwide Medical Insurance News: Water exercises 'good for pregnant women'
30/01/12 13:23
Pregnant expatriates with international medical insurance may wish to consider exercising in water.
Zest4lifeUK.com founder and wellness consultant Dr Joanna Helcke said this could be a "specialist aquanatal class" or simply swimming.
These activities are "perfect for pregnancy", particularly when people become closer to term and feel cumbersome and heavier, she stated.
However, some expectant females suffer from pelvic girdle pain and these people should avoid breaststroke, the consultant stated.
Ms Helcke noted this condition can also make walking painful, although she recommended this physical activity "for the majority of pregnant women".
Strolling outdoors in "beautiful countryside" is good for the soul, mind and body, she asserted.
Backache can be avoided by going to a "specialist pregnancy Pilates class", the expert declared, adding this can release tension in the shoulders, neck and upper back while "retaining tone in the deep abdominals".
She had previously warned that expectant women should not engage in impact exercises and combat sports.
