Worldwide Medical Insurance News: Therapy has wide range of benefits

03/03/11 17:10

Worldwide medical insurance customers might want to consider booking a therapist to guide them through mental health issues.

According to professor Peter Stratton, chair of the UK Council for Psychotherapy Research Facility, different therapies can help to alleviate a range of conditions.

"Cognitive therapy can change depression, hypnotherapy can reduce cravings for nicotine and family therapy reduces the number of visits everyone in the family makes to their GP or accident and emergency departments," said the professor.

The comment follows research published in Science Translational Medicine, which demonstrated that patients' beliefs and expectations can shape both therapeutic and adverse effects of any given drugs.

Worldwide medical insurance customers can enquire with their health practitioner if they want to know more about mental health treatment on offer.

Mr Stratton added that he hopes health services will rebalance their budgets to equal out the amount spent on mental health issues.
