Worldwide Medical Insurance News: Mayan Temples of Tikal 'are magical'
19/08/10 17:50
Expatriates looking for a spiritual or historical experience could try the Mayan Temples of Tikal in Guatemala, a company specialising in central and southern America holidays has suggested.
Laura Rendell-Dunn, press and marketing executive for Journey Latin America, commented that visiting the temples at dawn or dusk will make for a "truly magical experience".
"At sunrise you will experience the tropical jungle filling with agitated screams of parakeets and the haunting roar of howler monkeys; at sunset the site is bathed in a deep golden glow," she explained.
The archaeological site of Tikal comprises a network of steep pyramids which rise above the forest canopy but are hidden by low-lying jungle.
Expatriates and other travellers visiting the region could also take a trip over to Belize, which borders the Tikal National Park, and try out the Ambergris Caye for excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities.
Ms Rendell-Dunn's comments come after the Lonely Planet Awards named visiting the ancient site of Tikal as the greatest historical experience, putting the Guatemalan destination above India's Taj Mahal and the Egyptian pyramids.
