Worldwide Medical Insurance News: Malaysia 'to set up expat system'

Healthcare plans for expatriates could be given a boost in Malaysia after a government minister announced a comprehensive management system for the country's expat workers.
According to The Star, human resources minister Dr Subramaniam explained that the system is designed to ensure expatriate workers receive proper healthcare and employment rights relating to remuneration.
It would also help to identify foreign workers that are in the country illegally, he said.
The minister also recommended that local authorities look into the living conditions for expatriate health insurance policyholders to ensure their properties are clean.
"We don't want the workers to live in dirty surroundings, which could cause health problems, especially dengue fever," he added.
The news comes after the Associated Press of Pakistan reported that Malaysia is set to employ 5,000 Bangladeshi expatriates to work as fishermen, where they could earn a decent wage.
If this is successful, expatriate welfare and overseas employment secretary Jafar Ahmed Khan said Bangladesh would offer construction workers and agricultural employees to fill roles in Malaysia.
