Worldwide Medical Insurance News: Indian expats urged to register to vote

Expatriate Indians who have overseas health insurance are being advised to register with their nearest diplomatic missions in order to have a say in India's elections.
It comes after the country recently implemented voting rights for non-resident expatriate medical insurance policyholders under the Representation of the People (Amendment) bill.
According to the Khaleej Times, the minister of overseas Indian affairs, Vayalar Ravi, has urged Indian expats to start signing up their details with Indian embassies and consulates where they live.
He said this will help verify the non-resident status of expatriates when they go to register for the electoral roll and vote.
"There may be complaints and verifications will have to be done. So it is better they [expats] register with their embassies or consulates so that when the [district] collector checks, the missions here can confirm [their identities]," he explained.
The news comes after it emerged that Indian and other expatriates will no longer have to be subjected to the process of Kuwait's sponsorship system after the country announced it will be scrapping the controversial programme next February.
