Worldwide Medical Insurance News: Canada-China relations have improved, expats say

22/03/10 13:51

Relations between Canada and China were boosted by the Winter Olympics, expats told the Global Times at an annual expatriate celebration evening in Beijing.

"The Olympics brought the world to Canada," Richard Liu, the founder of an expatriate website which aims to connect Canadians and Chinese told the newspaper.

"It showed that Canada is a nation of competitive athletes. Of course, China didn't do too shabby either, considering how new they are to the Winter Games," Mr Lui added.

The comments were made by expats at the Annual Canadian Spring Cocktail Party held in a hotel in Beijing earlier this month. The party, hosted by the Canadian Alumni Network, celebrated Canada's 14 gold medals won at the Games held in Vancouver earlier this year.

Canadian embassy official Jeff Nankivell said the party had been "a great asset in China-Canada relations" and said that every visitor to the Games had come away with a good impression of the host city.

Expatriate school teacher Grace Esty, who has lived in Beijing for four years, told the Global Times that the evolution of the Canadian expat community in China's capital city had gone from practically non-existent to fairly ubiquitous.

People who are considering moving to China could think about taking out expatriate health insurance to help reduce unforeseen bills for medical treatment.
