Windows 7 'ideal for expats'

Windows 7's ability to switch between different languages represents a "major step forward" for software giant Microsoft, says PC World magazine..
Expatriate PC users were formerly given a choice between putting up with reading instructions in a language they did not recognise, or purchasing a new operating system.
The most expensive version of Microsoft's new offering - Windows 7 Ultimate - solves this problem, claims the publication.
In addition to offering the ability to switch between 35 different interfaces, new language packs are also available to download free of charge.
The IT magazine tested Microsoft's claims by switching a Japanese version of the program to English, which took around ten minutes to download and install, before restarting to put the changes into place.
Although installation was successful, one potential downfall was that the list of possible languages is provided in the original form, meaning users may need a friend to help them initially.
Currently priced at £199.99, the Ultimate Upgrade package also offers a facility for linking content across a number of home computers.
