UK expatriates in Canada fight for their pensions

A group of UK expatriates in Canada is hoping a European Court ruling will allow them to have their pensions upgraded.
The Canadian Alliance of British Pensioners and other similar organisations are pressuring for pensions to be indexed, as currently no agreement exists between Canada and the UK, reports the Mississauga News.
Peter Nelson, a Lorne Park resident from Mississauga told the publication: "The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg will be hearing the case this fall."
Previously, the House of Lords and the European Court's lower chamber rejected their claim.
The group now has the rare opportunity of putting its argument before the court's grand chamber, which will hear the case on September 2nd.
"Things are really coming to a grand finale," Mr Nelson noted.
Canada has strict laws on which expatriates it accepts, although it is possible to apply for Canadian citizenship after three years of residency.
