UAE expats 'could find work at Japanese firms'

Expatriate workers hit by the recession may be able to find employment at Japanese businesses, says a new report.
According to Emirates Business, while most sectors are currently experiencing a job market slump, many Japanese-owned firms based in the UAE are still hiring.
Ian Giulianotti, associate director at recruitment consultancy Nadia Middle East, told the publication that some companies are already preparing for the downturn to lift.
He explained: "According to our research, we have seen an increase of 22 per cent in business from Japanese firms in the UAE."
Manufacturing and petrochemicals are the two sectors experiencing the most recruitment activity, he noted.
While Mr Giulianotti declined to name his clients, the business news source claims that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), one of the largest Japanese firms operating in the Middle East, is planning significant expansion.
MHI was part of the international consortium behind the construction of Dubai's new metro system, unveiled last month.
Officials hope the system will carry up to 600,000 passengers each day by the end of its first year of operation.
