Travel firm 'leaves teens stranded'

A travel firm specialising in gap-year travel has collapsed and left more than 150 teenagers stranded abroad.
Global Xperience was taken into administration and can no longer take any bookings. It has also left some unprepared travellers with little or no support.
One of the travellers, Elise Facer-Childs, who is working in the Ghanaian capital of Accra, told the Independent: "In the gap-year compound we were behind barbed wire fences and had a guard, but it's nowhere near as safe here."
It is hoped the firm's new owners, Real Gap, will be able to assist those who had bought gap-year packages.
David Stitt, managing director of Real Gap says the firm "has a huge variety of programme options to choose from so I am sure we can help them".

Travellers and expats have been advised to check their booking details carefully when buying tickets online - according to German magazine Computer Bild, some merchants presume that customers paying with a credit card will want to take insurance and charge them by default, Earth Times has reported.
