
Thai expat mobile news service launched

A new breaking news text service targeting Thailand's expatriate community has been unveiled.
Jointly launched by English-language newspaper the Nation and immigration advice service Thaivisa.com, the SMS system will deliver up to date news on natural disasters and other topics of interest to migrants.
Selected quirkier stories from Thaivisa.com's online forums will also be sent via afternoon text messages.
Announcing the new facility, Pana Janviroj, chief operating officer of the newspaper's holding group Nation Multimedia Public, said: "We have hundreds of thousands of foreigners living in Thailand and we will provide them with Thailand-related news content from a foreigner's prospective."
Costing 49 Baht (89p) per month, the service will initially be offered through a free 14-day trial and is available for both top up and pay as you go customers.
Originally published in 1971 as the Voice of the Nation, the newspaper is one of two English-language papers in Thailand, the other being the Bangkok Post.
