
Tesco returns global profits

Supermarket giant and retailer Tesco has returned ongoing profits over the last year.
Despite facing a difficult economic period, the firm's preliminary results showed a healthy group trading profit of £3.09 billion.
First opened in the UK in 1924, the company has branches across the world - in countries including Thailand, China, Hungary and the US.
Terry Leahy, chief executive, says the group has "delivered a solid sales and profit performance, both in the UK and internationally, whilst continuing to invest in our long-term strategy for growth".
Of the 440,000 staff currently employed by the firm, 280,000 work in the UK.
Tesco branches in the US go under the Fresh and Easy name.
