Sunday trading laws have little effect on French shopping

British expatriates looking forward to a spot of Sunday shopping may have been disappointed with the first day of France's new shopping law.
According to expatriate newspaper the Connexion, the impact of the legislation was limited.
Previously, only shops in dedicated tourist zones were allowed to open on a Sunday, although the paper claims that in some areas businesses have been opening regardless.
Several areas are still waiting to be told if they have qualified as regions that can legally open on a Sunday.
People moving abroad could research local customs and practices so as not to fall foul of local laws they are yet to learn of.
British expatriates living in Germany should take care not to wash their car outside their house, as it is illegal in many states.
Recently, British expat Joan McBride told expat news provider Expatica that in France she found "a sense of belonging", although the government could do more to help Brits learn the language, she noted.
