St Lucia 'is an up-and-coming location'

Prospective expatriate insurance customers could find that moving to St Lucia provides them with a good value home and low living expenses, it has been claimed.

According to Marco Bonini, managing director of Caribbean property specialist Prestigious Properties, the island will be one of the choice locations this year.

He told the Times that the Caribbean is a "year-round" destination and that there are plenty of direct flights from the UK and US.

"The Caribbean is still one of the most lucrative areas to buy your investment property or dream holiday home," he commented.

Mr Bonini added that St Lucia is likely to be "key in 2009" because prices are well below those of Barbados.

The Times asserted that expat insurance policyholders on the island are "keen" to point out the advantages of living there, such as the conservative banks and friendly locals.

Those who would prefer to move to Barbados might find they have plenty of competition as interest in the island nation is rising, according to Les Calvert, director of Property Abroad.
