Spanish and British governments meet on the rock

Representatives of the Spanish and British governments have met on the contested rock of Gibraltar.
It was the first official visit by a Spanish dignitary to the disputed colony in 300 years.
As part of talks to decide trade and immigration issues, Miguel Angel Moratinos met with Gibraltar's chief minister Peter Caruana and British foreign secretary David Miliband.
Gibraltar is populated by British nationals and expatriates even though Spain insists it has a right of sovereignty.
The Spanish minister said he would continue a dialogue with people living on the rock. The Guardian reported he said: "We are in the 21st century and we have to look to the future rather than to the past."
In a recent vote the population overwhelmingly voted to remain under British rule.
Although, in a move towards reconciliation it was announced that an institute to promote Spanish culture and language would be opened in Gibraltar led by a Spaniard.
