Skilled migrants 'still needed' in New Zealand

Officials in New Zealand have been quick to confirm the country still needs foreign migrants.
Unemployment has been rising in the south pacific islands, leading some commentators to claim the islands are sending people home.
Manager at Immigration New Zealand Steve Cantlon has admitted that the country gives its nationals the first available jobs.
"But New Zealand still needs skilled migrants," he said.
Because New Zealand has also felt the pain of economic decline it has been forced to reduce the amount of trades it considers to be 'in need'.
Having established new long-term skill shortage lists it is hoped it will attract more electricians, builders and mechanics to take up contracts and make the most of the country's scenery.
The country's flag retains the Union Jack as a symbol of the connection between the two states.
