Ski helmets 'won't become mandatory is Europe'

The wearing of ski helmets in Europe will not become mandatory, says the Ski Club of Great Britain.
The club's spokesperson, Betony Garner, noted that helmet use has become more popular in recent years, a trend which she thinks will continue.
Currently, about 30 per cent of adults will wear a helmet and 70 per cent of children. "We will see it rising in the next few years," Ms Garner says.
Compulsory helmet wearing would begin in North America, were it to happen, Ms Garner noted, although "in Europe, in the foreseeable future, I can't see it becoming mandatory".
The tragic death of actress Natasha Richardson following a seemingly minor head injury, should act as a reminder to all skiers to take care on the slopes.
