Seoul health hotline 'underused'
08/10/09 16:35
Much of Korea's expatriate population is reportedly unaware that they can access a 24-hour, free telephone service offering health advice.
According to the Korea Times, the hotline is a "bastion of medical information", providing users with information and counselling in English.
However, the newspaper claims that the majority of foreigners living in Seoul are not even aware of the Medical Referral Service's (MRS) existence.
A spokesperson for the facility told the publication that marketing is vital to the service's success and said it was looking for new "creative" ways to raise its profile.
Tom Hicken, a Canadian English teacher, added that he had often turned to friends or colleagues for advice on where to find medical treatment and would have found MRS useful if he had known about it earlier.
Korea was recently ranked 26th out of 182 on a list of the world's most desirable places to live, published by the United Nations.
