'Search around' for expat health insurance in China
02/03/10 13:00
Those planning a move to China have been advised to search around for an expat health insurance policy that is suited to their needs.
Start in China has advised that for those who will be firmly rooted when they move, taking out an international medical insurance policy may be unnecessary, while they should also pay attention to excess limits on their policy.
In countries such as China where medical care is relatively cheap, buyers should look for a policy with a low excess as otherwise they could find themselves forking out for the majority of the cost of treatment.
The site also recommended driving a hard bargain, as many local insurers will offer a discount on expat health insurance policies to those who ask.
The China Law Blog has welcomed the "superb" advice for expats offered by Start in China, recommending that anyone planning a move to the country pay the site a visit.
