
Saudi Arabia expats total 10m

The number of expats living and working in Saudi Arabia has hit ten million.
Saudi Arabia is such a favoured expat destination a recent review noted the Kingdom had ten million expatriates.
Workers from other countries are now so popular they made up 27 per cent of the population by the end of 2008.
The Saudi deputy minister of labor Abdul Wahid Al-Humaid recently announced the figures, reports the Saudi Gazette. He explained that the number of domestic workers of both sexes had increased by 23 per cent in just one year, to 1.2 million.
Mr Al-Humaid noted that unemployment among Saudi's had also risen. Up ten per cent, there were 416,000 people out of work and more than a quarter (26 per cent) of these were women, he commented.
The British Ambassador Sir William Patey explained recently just how close the UK and Saudi Arabia are: "Our militaries train together; our judges learn from each other; and our children study together."
