People power stops French phone mast

Complaints by locals in Paris have forced mobile phone operator Orange to backtrack on plans to erect a phone mast in a residential area.
In what is believed to be the first court ruling in France of its sort, the firm was denied permission because its mast would have been too close to an elderly man's home, the Connexion has reported.
The paper for expatriates noted the man told France Info he had read on the internet that "a lot of people living near masts complain of headaches and insomnia"
After locals joined in protest Orange was told it would face a fine of €5,000 (£4,385) for each day it failed to comply with the court ruling.
