Overseas Health Insurance News: Stress 'can be mistaken for ageing'

08/06/11 17:11

Overseas health insurance customers might be interested to learn that many younger people can mistake signs of stress for ageing.

According to Ann Finnemore, a hypnotherapist, stress manager and owner of Getting You There, stress symptoms like "poor memory, poor sleep, inability to concentrate [and] emotional ability" can also be characteristics of growing older.

She added: "Another factor that impacts on an older person's ability to learn to manage stress is simply that they have had many years of employing their own strategies and so any unhelpful or bad habits might be more ingrained.

"However, in my experience, older people are just as capable of learning new strategies as younger people - especially when they see immediate benefits from the new ways."

Earlier this year, research from the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich revealed that an increased release of stress hormones in rates can ultimately lead to memory loss.
