Lebanese expats living overseas are set to be granted the right to participate in the next general election, it has been revealed.

According to Lebanon's Daily Star, the country's interior minister Ziyad Baroud insisted that his department is on track to draft legislation that will give expats the vote within six months.

The new laws are part of wider electoral reform which also resulted in the lowering of the participating age to 18 in 2008.

"We want to arrive at results as soon as possible because we have future funding projects of 2 million euros to prepare for parliamentary electoral reforms in 2013," he commented.

For those planning a move overseas, Shelter Offshore has urged expats to consider the scope of their international health insurance policy, as failing to take out repatriation and evacuation cover may put people under extreme financial pressure in an emergency.

A comprehensive service may also improve access to the highest standards of care in areas where health infrastructure is patchy, the site advised.ADNFCR-1788-ID-19599475-ADNFCR
