Overseas Health Insurance News: Foreign property searches 'up 134%'

23/02/10 13:02

The number of searches for foreign properties has increased by 134 per cent in the last year, according to Primelocation.

The company's latest set of figures revealed that searches in January were up by 25 per cent compared with December, and Spain, France and the United States remained the most popular locations for those looking to move abroad.

But while the report showed interest in expat property searches had increased in many areas, Adam Samuel, director of Nubricks.com, said the findings should be "taken with a pinch of salt".

"Searches are definitely up in a lot of parts [of the world], but we need to be cautious about what that means in terms of actual recovery. A lot more people are looking at what is available and considering where to invest," he said.

Turkey property searches increased by 55 per cent in the last month and Mr Samuel said there were bargains to be had as house prices in the country are relatively low.

One thing to keep in mind when relocating abroad is health insurance.
