Northern Portugal drawing in UK expatriates

The number of British expatriates calling Portugal home looks set to keep on rising as a series of new residential developments across the country are completed.

Mirroring the boom witnessed in neighbouring Spain over recent years, property specialists Homes Worldwide has reported that interest in upmarket developments has increased markedly among those Britons looking to start a new life in the sun.

In particular, demand for properties in the north of Portugal is becoming increasingly strong, thanks partly to the completion of resorts such as the Norte Golfe Group's Vale Pisao Nature Resort.

In addition, expatriates are also being attracted by the country's famed beaches, golf course and, more recently, the vineyards in and around the Douro Valley.

Earlier this month, property experts predicted that Portugal's joint bid with Spain for the 2018 football World Cup would be likely to put the attractions of the country even further on the map, with even more expatriates set to abandon the UK for a new life abroad.
