New trans-Tasman flights announced

A new agreement between Australia and New Zealand should make it easier for British expatriates to fly between the two countries.

Changes to immigration policy will mean that low-risk passengers will get a speedy transfer.

Thanks to new processing technology people with e-passports will be able to check themselves through customs.

Announcing the changes, the New Zealand prime minister, John Key, said the measures would also include biosecurity screening.

The country's minister of immigration, Jonathan Coleman, is pleased with the developments: "Measures to encourage more tourists visiting here from our nearest neighbour will be a boost for the tourism industry and our economy," he commented.

New Zealand is expecting even more visitors to its shores this year – it is hosting the first ever 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games, which start today.
