An agreement between Delmage Academy of Languages and Skills (DALAS) and the British Council has given the go-ahead for a new academy in Colombo.
As part of the deal, DALAS will give expatriates living in Sri Lanka new language skills and enhance their experience of the country.
A skills department course will help give locals new opportunities to master English and Brits who have moved to the country the chance to study spoken Tamil, Japanese for beginners, or Sinhala for expatriates.
Gill Westway, country director at the British Council, said the centre could help the country reach the new targets it has set itself as part of its Year of English and Information Technology.
The British Council seeks to build cultural relations and educational opportunities in over 110 countries and territories across the globe.
