Most popular expat destinations revealed

Offshore banking specialist Halifax International has revealed France is the most popular destination among British expats.
According to the report published earlier this week, 16 per cent of British migrants settle for a new life across the channel, while one in ten travel a little further to Spain.
The USA came in at third with eight per cent, while Australia, Switzerland and Germany shared fourth place.
However, the results varied when broken down into different age brackets. Young people aged 16 to 35 named Australia as their ideal place to live, with 35 to 45-year-olds choosing Italy.
Pensioners differed from younger Britons by selecting Canada as the best place for an expatriate lifestyle, just ahead of Australia, New Zealand and Spain.
The data also revealed four per cent of those surveyed already own a home abroad, with a further 27 per cent considering a move overseas.
In related news, migrant advice site Shelter Offshore has told expats in Spain they may be better off taking out global health insurance than making state contributions.
