Migrants urged to check expat medical insurance requirements

It is vital that individuals moving to another country research the expat medical insurance requirements of their chosen destination, it has been advised.
Shelter Offshore noted that in a growing number of countries, medical insurance is a legal requirement, with Germany, Holland and a number of Gulf states including Abu Dhabi all requiring such cover. It is also being considered in neighbouring Dubai.
To avoid falling foul of the law, the site urged people to research expat medical insurance requirements carefully and take the time to pick out a provider that will be right for individual needs.
"Picking a provider will be dependent on a number of factors from cost to reputation, level of cover and care offered and suitability of policies available to you," the site advised.
In a separate article, Shelter Offshore also recently reminded expats that international medical insurance is particularly important for those moving to countries where health infrastructure is underdeveloped and access to primary care is limited.
