Melbourne sees increase in interest from Brits

Melbourne has seen a huge increase in the number of people looking to visit, Opodo.co.uk has suggested.

The travel website claimed that the Australian city has seen an increase of 400 per cent in bookings from Brits, a sign that it could potentially also be a popular place for Brits to relocate to.

Claire Golding, Tourism Victoria's regional manager for the UK and Europe, said: "Melbourne is fast becoming Australia's new must-see city.

"With an impressive line up of world-class events, a lively passion for eating and drinking and a flourishing arts scene, it has struck a real chord in the UK market."

The city beat the second placed city, Delhi, by over 180 per cent.

A number of big events take place in the city, with this year seeing the 17th Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, which will feature British foodie Heston Blumenthal, and the Australian Grand Prix among them.

It also has some great attractions all year-round, including the National Sports Museum and the MTC Theatre, Australia's most technically advanced theatre.ADNFCR-1788-ID-19055668-ADNFCR
