Marbella ends planning delay
03/08/09 13:50
Marbella, a favourite destination of expatriate Brits, has agreed a new draft of its building plan.
The announcement could help relieve some of the worry faced by property buyers that they might have had to pay compensation to city authorities.
Previously, some developers had built and sold properties illegally. Under the new proposal it is they who will have to find the cash, not British expatriates.
Some illegal properties will still face demolition, spanishpropertyinsight.com has reported, and Mayor Angeles Munoz has fought to protect innocent third party buyers from having to make compensation payments.
Should the regional government approve the proposal, 16,500 properties built under the earlier planning laws will be legalised and money will be given to the Marbella council to restore its public spaces.
Marbella is at the centre of the favoured Costa del Sol region - which is a favourite retirement and holiday destination for British expatriates.
