Life in London 'can be great value'

Current exchange rates mean London is now one of the world's best value destinations, says an inbound tourism expert.
In news that may surprise expatriates based in the UK, England's capital city was named by travel guide Lonely Planet as a place where visitors can get more for their money.
Mary Rance, chief executive at domestic tourism organisation UKinbound, said: "Many overseas travellers are still unaware that the fluctuations in exchange rates now mean that the UK offers them better value."
She noted that government investment in overseas marketing will help to ensure 2010 is a "bumper year" for inbound travel.
Although visitor numbers rose between June and August by three per cent on the previous three months, figures were still down by ten per cent on last year, according to the Office of National Statistics.
Lonely Planet explained the economic crisis and the falling value of the pound has made London more accessible to visitors from abroad, if not for its own residents.
Other destinations to make it into the travel guide's top ten include Iceland, Thailand, South Africa and Malaysia.
