Kenyan expats 'can transfer funds on-the-go'

A new mobile banking service aimed at East African expatriate workers will allow users to receive money from anywhere in the world or send money to Kenya, Uganda or Tanzania.
South African mobile operator Zain has upgraded its money transfer product Zap so customers can manage their account away from home.
Users can now pay utility bills, top up their phone credit or check their balance through their handest.
Launching the new resource, Dr Saad Al Barrak, the telecom firm's chief executive
Officer, said: "This enhancement of Zap is another world first from Zain. It means that our customers in remote towns and villages as well as those in the cities can receive money from wherever in the world their business colleagues or family and friends are.
"Ability to send money from the mobile phone to any bank account in East Africa will enable businesses to perform more efficiently."
The announcement coincides with the release of the mobile operator's latest financial results, which report a year-on-year customer base increase of 37 per cent to a total of 69.5 million.
