Would-be expatriates considering a move to Japan should note four of the country's cities ranked in the top ten of the world's most expensive expat destinations.
According to a survey conducted by human resources consultancy ECA International, Luanda in Angola is the most costly for expatriates, while Tokyo, Nagoya, Yokahama and Kobe took the following four places respectively.
Lee Quane, ECA International regional director, explained: "The strengthening of Asian currencies is the dominant factor contributing to the region being more expensive for visitors than it was 12 months ago."
Western currencies have weakened and people moving from the region will notice "a considerable difference in costs compared with 12 months ago," he continued.
The ECA research was based on the cost of 125 consumer items commonly bought by expatriates.
The remaining top ten places went to Copenhagen, Oslo, Geneva, Zurich and Basel.
Health services differ from country-to-country and Brits considering a move abroad should carefully cost their move and consider expatriate health insurance policies.
