Japan 'emerging as new foodie capital'

Expatriate workers living in Japan can sample a cuisine named as one of the world's finest by a travel expert.
According to Charlotte Swift, editor of Food and Travel magazine, the country has become a "mecca for gastronomes", offering everything from low-priced street food to Michelin-starred restaurants.
Her comments follow news the fine dining expert Michelin has for the first time released a guide to the nation's Osaka and Kyoto regions.
A total of seven restaurants included in the book were awarded the much-coveted three-star rating.
Michelin's judges only award the top marks to establishments serving "exceptional" cuisine worth travelling for.
In addition to its gastronomic attractions, Ms Swift recommended Japan's "awe-inspiring variety of nature and rich and colourful culture".
Foodies should head for Tokyo's Tukiji fish market, she added, which is the largest of its kind in the world.
Ms Swift also suggested those new to the country pay a visit to Kyoto's Golden Temple, Mount Fuji and the Japanese Alps.
